Thanks to everyone who came out to Gowanus WIld @ Gowanus Open Studios this past weekend! Wow, what a great time, we had over 250+ people come through, multiple sales, lots of interest and great conversations. So cool to meet and chat with so many friends and supporters. I'm thrilled to announce I will be participating in Gowanus Open Studios on October 19th-20th, showing Gowanus Wild in its natural habitat for the first time. I'll be doing a two day pop-up gallery exhibiting the full series to date with prints available of additional new images that have not yet been published or exhibited. Also on view will be some of my other photographic work including a giant 4ft x 4ft piece from a series on winter in Hokkaido, Japan, as well as the widely exhibited 'Turkish Family' and a taste of some other new projects.
So come down and enjoy some fine refreshments and check out the work, I'd love to see you there. Details:

The IPA 2013 results are out this week and I'm happy to announce that I received several honorable mentions in the Portrait, Culture, Family and Still Life categories. I'm particularly encouraged to see the image I created for the Detroit Print Exchange getting shown around as it's an image I really love.
Great news from London, my image 'Turkish Family' has won the Renaissance Photography Prize in the single image 'Ordinary' category. I'm honored to be recognized by such a marvelous jury and blown away that I even made it as a finalist out of over five thousand entries. Also it feels great to be part of a worthy cause as all proceeds for the event benefit The Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care.
Come join us next Thursday in Brooklyn for the opening night party to kick off Photoville 2013, a two week outdoor extravaganza of superb photography! There will be a multimedia screening on opening night of work from THE FENCE photographers (my series Gowanus Wild is part of this) and a delicious beer garden set up by Greenwood Park.
If you haven't had a chance yet to check out THE FENCE, the next two long weekends will be a great time to do so when you can catch all of the awesome stuff going on at Photoville as well.
I found out today that one of my images, 'Turkish Family', won 2nd place in the monthly Life Framer competition. This month's theme is "A Human Touch". Check out the winners and other shortlisted entries here.
The super awesome news of the week is that Gowanus Wild will be part of THE FENCE at Photoville! Starting June 11th over 1000ft of fence under the Brooklyn Bridge will be turned into a giant group photo exhibition for the summer. It's an honor to be exhibiting with so many other great photographers, and also exciting to be representing Brooklyn in the 'streets' category. This will be the first time I'll be showing the series in Brooklyn where it was shot, and I really couldn't ask for a better BK debut. With the festival running for more than three months from June 11th to October 1st and estimated visitors of 1.5 million, it's sure to be one helluva summer photo extravaganza.
Join us for the opening on Thursday, June 13th @ 6:00PM in the Brooklyn Bridge Park by Jane's Carousel. There will be a guided tour of THE FENCE by United Photo Industries ending at Pier 5 and refreshments and ice cream will be served. Hope to see you there but if you can't make it, take a stroll down there sometime this summer if you're passing through town.
Some new shows to announce coming up this summer - two images from Gowanus Wild will be in the Houston Center for Photography's 31st Annual Juried Membership Exhibition juried by Lisa Sutcliffe. The show runs from July 12th through September 8th in Houston, TX. Then from June 22nd to August 3rd, two photos of mine will be in the Paducah Photo 2013 show in Paducah, KY. One is Turkish Family which has been in several shows previously, and the other is an image I really love which I made for the upcoming Detroit Print Exchange group show on the theme 'the time we cannot meet'. Glad to see this image will be getting out there in other venues.
I'm thrilled to announce that the largest batch of images from Gowanus Wild so far will be on view at Davis Orton Gallery in Hudson, NY from April 5th through May 12th. Twelve photos from the series will be shown as part of Night Photography: Portfolio Showcase. Headlining photographers Stephen DiRado and Bob Avakian are doing interesting things with night photography in nature, while the other portfolio showcase photographer, Susan Bowen, is shooting in the urban environment as am I. Thus the show promises to provide a unique counterpoint between these two seemingly opposite takes on night photography. I'll definitely be at the opening on Saturday April 6th as I love beautiful upstate NY in spring and can't think of any better excuse to get out of the city than this!

Right now two photos of mine are showing in the Abstraction show at Kiernan Gallery, juried by Matthew Gamber. Channeling my eastern European roots (Hungarian), I have a real love for abstract photography and always think of doing more projects in the genre. I also just found out that a photo of mine taken on one of many Death Valley trips will also be shown at Kiernan in the upcoming Open Water show juried by Jennifer Schwartz. This picture was taken at the Furnace Creek Ranch, an odd speck of tourist comfort in a sea of mineral oblivion. Fun fact: check out this google maps link to see the pool where the photo was shot, then zoom out to get sense of the vast scale of the surrounding area.
Today brings a great bit of news - I just found out I won the Director's Choice Award at the Midwest Center for Photography's 2013 annual juried exhibition! The show features six images from Gowanus Wild, which has so far been the largest exhibition of photos from the series. Looking forward to printing new images and eventually having a show of the complete series (really want to do a book too).
Today brings three openings across the country, one of which I'm just now announcing. My photo 'Turkish Family' is opening today at the Texas Photo Society 22nd International Competition in San Antonio Texas, as well as at the Center for Fine Art Photography's Portraits 2013 Exhibition in Fort Collins, CO where it won the Juror's Selection prize. (Also showing at the Portraits 2013 Exhibition is 'Matt & Nicole'). The TPS 22 show will go on tour across Texas for one year which is pretty cool!
Last but not least, six prints from my Gowanus Wild series open today in Wichita, KS as part of the 2013 Midwest Center for Photography Juried Exhibition. This is the largest batch of prints from the series which have been exhibited so far, excited to see it taking off like this.
Two more images from my Gowanus Wild series will be turning up in group shows this weekend. 'Street Jungle' will be shown at the 3rd Annual National and International Juried Photography Exhibition at Viridian Artists in NYC from February 5th-23rd, a show juried by Nat Trotman, Curator at the Guggenheim Museum. 'Red Piers' will be at the Color Story exhibition at the Darkroom Gallery in Essex Junction, VT, from February 7th-March 3rd, juried by Seth Resnick. This weeks brings news of a new group show, an interesting project called the Detroit Print Exchange which will be an edition of commissioned prints created by 25 artists around the theme of "the time we cannot meet". Each artist receives a copy of all other participating artists' prints and the edition will also be exhibited in Detroit in the spring and NYC in the fall. Starting to think about what I want to shoot for this...
Two of my portraits will be part of the upcoming Portraits 2013 show opening February 15th at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO. A picture I took on vacation in Istanbul, 'Turkish Family', has won the Juror's Selection Award! 'Matt & Nicole' is a shot of my sister and brother-in-law in Budapest after my nagymama's funeral. A photo of mine will be part of the upcoming Lines: Walked and Crossed and Otherwise group exhibition at the PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont. The show runs from Jan 29th-Feb 23rd, check it out if you're in northern Vermont. This shot is from a 2008 trip to Hokkaido, Japan and was shot in Kutchan.
I'm thrilled to announce that Gallery 1313 in Toronto is showing three photos from my Gowanus Wild series as part of their Urban Art exhibition, curated by Phil Anderson. Opening reception is Thurs Nov 29th and the show runs through December 9th.
