Returning this year after a pandemic hiatus is everyone's favorite neighborhood art event – Gowanus Open Studios! This year I have a bunch of things going on, so stop by and check out whatever catches your fancy. All events below run Saturday & Sunday 12-6pm, COVID protocols will be observed and masks required indoors.
Makeville Studio - I'll be set up here for the weekend showing my latest work along with a selection of prints and books available for purchase. Makeville is a fully equipped teaching woodworking studio, so it will be an interesting non-traditional exhibition space to check out. It's also a GOS info hub, fellow artists Bonnie Ralston, Kasia Zurek-Doule & Clare Burson will also be exhibiting there, and it's a stop in the Gowanus Night Heron: Case Study show, so there will be plenty to see and do! Makeville: 125 8th St. in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
Gowanus Night Heron: Case Study - The Heron alights again as this pop-up art event collective founded by Bonnie Ralston, Kasia Zurek-Doule & myself puts on its 2nd show of the year after June's mega blowout event. This time we invited 30 artists to reimagine a small acrylic box as they saw fit. The results will be on view during GOS at several locations, including my own efforts at Makeville Studio. Props to Time Out NY for mentioning the Gowanus Night Heron: Case Study show in their best things to do in NYC this wekeend list!
Unnatural Histories - I'm thrilled to have a piece showing alongside many other excellent artists this weekend in 'Unnatural Histories'. This wonderful show is currently on view at FOOTNOTE, Sasha Chavchavadze's new project space in Gowanus dedicated to using art to explore forgotten history. Unnatural Histories is one of three interconnected exhibitions all showing in Gowanus at the moment, organized by the new art collective Assembly Required.
And if you're just looking for a good party, we got you covered! Join us for the GOS closing party at the Gowanus Dredger's Boathouse (165 2nd St) on Sunday night starting at 6:30pm.
Lastly, a huge THANKS to Arts Gowanus for all the hard work they put into Gowanus Open Studios and many other neighborhood events and important initiatives that support the arts. The past year and a half has come with many challenges and Arts Gowanus has supported artists and art lovers throughout tough times. I encourage everyone to donate, volunteer, attend events & show your support because none of this happens without the support of the community!
Hope to see you this weekend!
